We were looking for a new x-pen to raise our pups in and came across these, very nice, portable pens by Retriever. We purchased one because they were expandable and each hinge locked for more stability.
The enclosure is a bit heavy but folds up neatly for easier transport, it came with straps to keep it together during transport. Unfolding it was a bit cumbersome in the area we wanted to put it but once I figured out the way the hinges went it was easier to get setup. I love that at each hinged section, there corners will latch in 90, 180 or 270 degrees to be more rigid against jumping pups.
One thing I didn’t like about the design was the door only opens one way, so make sure you put it facing out or harder to get to open. This was the first thing I noticed upon use. Then, as the puppies grew older and escaped from their whelping box it was discovered that they can easily fit through the bar spacing! That made for some fun times. I had to zip-tie extra barriers (using the dividers from wire crates) to contain the munchkins.
These kennels can be expanded by adding another kennel but only at the attachment point at the door which leaves very little room for configuration. I was hopeful I could attach two to have a common wall but that’s not possible in this setup.
Overall, I like the design, and I’ll purchase another with a different plan for around the bottom for smaller puppies.
