Our Review

We received the ‘Medium’ sized Twist ‘N Treat.  At first glance, the packaging is nice and has easily explained instructions for use right on the front.  The toy is heaver than I expected but this isn’t a bad thing, it looks and feels like a very durable toy especially being designed with puppy jaws in mind.  The smell of rubber was very noticeable upon opening my package which is to be expected for a brand new toy constructed of rubber.  The rubber smell may be a put off to some dogs, others might not notice with the anticipated treat reward from playing with it.

This toy expels treats when it’s moved and tossed around so great for an open area, probably best on a hard surface like wood floors.  The treat opening is about an inch when the toy is completely closed.  Smaller treats are ideal for use with this toy so they can fall out of the hole easier when played with.  This would also be a great toy to use if feeding smaller kibble, great dinner time activity.

The Twist ‘n Treat is adjustable for difficulty level as well and can be made to accommodate the larger kibble if needed.  Just unscrew the top slightly to make hole larger or twist a little to give the exit hole a different opening.  The package actually suggests the use of a paste type treat as a stuffing option, I highly recommend avoid it.  Using a pasty treat, like peanut butter, would encourage too much chewing and licking that could cause a dog to get their jaw stuck inside the hole.  It could also discourage the dog too much if they couldn’t reach the reward thus the dog losing interest.

Unlike other puzzle toys of similar nature this toy is easy to clean, one of my favorite benefits.  All you have to do is twist the top off, remove excess food and place on top rack of dishwasher!  Or just use a wet paper towel to do a spot cleaning.

Overall I’d recommend this product as a treat puzzle option.  It won’t hold a whole meal for a larger puppy but great activity for boredom. I do hate that it’s only recommended for puppies up to 6 months of age but depending on a dog’s chewing tenacity, it may well last longer than the package suggests.  Do keep a watch on the toy for any deterioration.  It is rubber and will dry rot over time and as a dog’s jaws become stronger or they become more interested in the inside goodies they may be more apt to try to pick off pieces of the rubber in an effort to get to the innards and accidentally ingest bits of the toy.

As always, it’s best to supervise your dog with any toy.
